Geckos

At Godolphin Junior Academy we are keen to insure every child has a fun and active lunchtime. Godolphin provides daily clubs for children, as part of our lunchtime ‘Geckos’ groups. Children are chosen to take part in the groups by the schools Inclusion team, in collaboration with the children’s class teachers.

During these sessions, children are able to work on their personal skills, so that they can work with others, develop their social skills and develop strategies to make lunchtimes a success for themselves. These skills can also be then transferred back into the classroom. Some pupils take part in more than one activity and all groups have the support of our Young Leaders.

Geckos sessions run for 30 minutes every day and each child who is selected is able to bring a friend of their choice with them. Each child receives their own lunchtime ticket and lanyard and this allows them to show responsibility in looking after their tickets and attending their clubs on time.

There is a mixture of activities-ranging from physical activity and sport, while others focus on social skills, team building and playing/working together.
